Why Volunteer With Us
STEM In The Rockaways is a community-based, volunteer-led nonprofit. We bring hands-on STEM to schools, churches, daycares, and community spaces across the Rockaway peninsula — 3D printing, coding and robotics, engineering challenges, flight simulation, microscopes, and our AR Sandbox. Every program depends on people like you.
You don't need to be a scientist or an engineer. If you can share your time, your curiosity, or your skills, there's a place for you here.
Ways to Help
Activity Helper
Work alongside learners at hands-on stations — 3D printing, Sphero coding, bridge building, microscopes, and more. We'll show you how.
STEM Professional
Share your career story, lead a demonstration, or mentor young people curious about science, technology, engineering, aviation, or health.
Skilled Volunteer
Lend skills behind the scenes: photography, graphic design, social media, writing and grant support, IT, or event planning.
Host a Program
We don't have a permanent center, so partner spaces make our work possible. Schools, churches, libraries, and community organizations can host a STEM day.

Volunteer FAQ
Do I need a STEM background?
No. Many of our volunteers help with events, families, and logistics. For hands-on stations, we'll walk you through the activity before learners arrive.
Where and when are programs held?
Programs run at partner sites across the Rockaway peninsula, often during school breaks (winter, spring, and summer) and at community events. We'll share dates, times, and locations when you sign up.
How much time do I need to give?
As much or as little as works for you — a single event, a few days during a school break, or ongoing help with a skill you enjoy.
Can my company or group volunteer together?
Yes. Contact us to plan a group volunteer day or a sponsored STEM event.
