We’re an organization driven by the mission to make STEM accessible and engaging for all, focusing on underserved communities that often lack access to essential STEM resources. Our programs are designed to inspire a lifelong journey in STEM, from introducing foundational concepts to young children, encouraging exploration and innovation in youth, and guiding individuals toward mastery in adulthood.
Through a consistent, supportive approach, we’re dedicated to empowering each participant, bridging gaps, and fostering growth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. When the robot doesn`t roll where you planned, that`s not a mistake. That`s engineering. Learners at STEM In The Rockaways write code for small Sphero robots, design shapes in 3D, and learn that every "try again" gets them closer.
Our instructors sit right beside them, asking questions and cheering on every fix.

Push the sand into a mountain and watch the colors change. Scoop out a valley and the map updates in real time. Our AR sandbox projects a live topographic map onto real sand, so learners can see how elevation, contour lines and landforms work by building them with their own hands.

Slime looks like play, and it is! It`s also chemistry. When learners mix and knead their own slime, they`re working with polymers: long chains of molecules that change how a liquid behaves.
Our instructors and volunteers guide learners through experiments like this so science feels like something you do, not just something you read about.
