Welcome to STEM in the Rockaways! We’re an organization driven by the mission to make STEM accessible and engaging for all, focusing on underserved communities that often lack access to essential STEM resources. Our programs are designed to inspire a lifelong journey in STEM, from introducing foundational concepts to young children, encouraging exploration and innovation in youth, and guiding individuals toward mastery in adulthood.
Through a consistent, supportive approach, we’re dedicated to empowering each participant, bridging gaps, and fostering growth in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Science you can stretch. 💜
Slime looks like play, and it is! It`s also chemistry. When learners mix and knead their own slime, they`re working with polymers: long chains of molecules that change how a liquid behaves.
Our instructors and volunteers guide learners through experiments like this so science feels like something you do, not just something you read about.

Help your young learner explore STEM at home with simple step-by-step activities you can do together, like a light-up paper circuit card, a yeast balloon experiment and the Tower of Hanoi challenge. Each one takes about 30 minutes and ends with a question to talk through together.
You`ll also find the kits and tools we use in our programs, a holiday gift guide, birthday ideas by grade and seasonal STEM ideas all year long.
